OpenAI announced its latest GPT-4o (‘Omni’) model at the Spring Update event, and now access to this flagship model is available to both free and paid users. While paid users get early access, free users can also start using the GPT-4o model right away. Additionally, we’ve included the download link for the ChatGPT macOS desktop app. Here’s how you can use ChatGPT 4o on the web, Android, iPhone, and macOS.
Using ChatGPT 4o on the Web
OpenAI announced that the GPT-4o model will be available on ChatGPT for both free and paid users. Currently, it’s being rolled out to paid users, but over the next few weeks, free users will also gain access to the GPT-4o model on ChatGPT. The steps for accessing the model remain the same.
- Head to chatgpt.com (visit) and sign in to your account.
- Click on the drop-down menu located in the top-left corner and select “GPT-4o“.
- You can now start using ChatGPT 4o. In my testing, it was fast and intelligent at generating responses.
Using ChatGPT 4o on Android and iOS
ChatGPT Plus users are receiving early access to the GPT-4o model on both Android and iOS. Access will also be granted to free ChatGPT users in the upcoming weeks.
- Next, sign in with your account.
- After that, tap on the three-dot menu in the top-right corner and choose “GPT-4o“.
- Now, you can start your conversation with OpenAI’s latest Omni model. It also supports the latest Voice Mode chat; however, on Android, it doesn’t support interruptions yet.
Using GPT-4o on OpenAI Playground
While OpenAI has not yet rolled out free access to the GPT-4o model on ChatGPT, you can still access it through the OpenAI Playground. The latest model is available even for free users. Note that while the Playground is designed for developers, general users can also test the latest models there.
- Open the OpenAI Playground (visit) in your browser and sign in to your account.
- In the top-left corner, click on the drop-down menu and choose the “gpt-4o” model.
- You’re now ready to send instructions and begin testing the model at no cost.
Downloading the ChatGPT App for macOS
OpenAI has released the ChatGPT desktop app for macOS, available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers. Here’s how to download it:
- Download the ChatGPT macOS app from here.
- Install the DMG file and launch the ChatGPT app.
- Log in to your account and access the GPT-4o model on the ChatGPT macOS app. Note that access is being rolled out gradually, so approval may take some time.
