Valve, renowned for its game marketplace Steam and iconic live-service games like Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, and Dota 2, has recently unveiled its next project: Deadlock. Although still in early development, PC players can already receive invitations to play Deadlock. But what about console gamers? Read on to find out when Deadlock might arrive on PS5 and Xbox consoles.
Is Deadlock Coming to PS5?
As someone familiar with Valve’s games, it seems unlikely that Deadlock will make its way to PS5 consoles. Valve’s relationship with Sony has been less than smooth in the past. For instance, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was available on PS3, but it did not receive a warm reception.
Valve has consistently expressed how challenging it can be to release patches for consoles, given their focus on PC. Currently, Deadlock is not available on PS5. However, the gameplay appears well-suited for consoles, so we can’t entirely dismiss the possibility of a PS5 release for Deadlock in the future.
Is Deadlock Coming to Xbox?
There was a time when I would confidently say that if Valve was making a game, it would likely be on Xbox. Classics like Portal, Left 4 Dead, and their sequels were beloved by Xbox 360 gamers. However, with current partnerships shifting, it seems possible that Deadlock might not make it to Xbox Series X/S consoles, especially considering Riot Games’ Valorant is directly partnered with Xbox Game Pass.
Valve games have been absent from consoles for quite some time. Titles like Artifact, Dota Underlords, and their flagship games like CS2 and Dota 2 are all part of the PC ecosystem, Steam Deck, or mobile platforms. If Deadlock does come to consoles, it could potentially become a crossplay title. While console availability remains uncertain, it’s highly likely that Deadlock will be released on the Steam Deck.
