The first week of January has been an exciting time for PC and laptop enthusiasts, with major announcements coming from all directions. One of the highlights is AMD’s Fire Range series chipsets for laptops, along with the bold reveal of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
With the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD claims to have created the world’s best processor for both creative work and gaming. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D features 16 cores and a total of 144MB of cache. Additionally, AMD unveiled the 9900X3D, which comes with 12 cores, a slightly lower boost clock, and a reduced TDP. Both processors are built on the new Zen 5 architecture.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D boasts a maximum boost frequency of 5.7GHz, which is 500 MHz higher than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D released on November 7. With this increased clock speed, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D will require 170W of power from your supply.
Overall, AMD claims the Ryzen 9 9950X3D delivers 64% better performance compared to Intel’s latest counterpart, the Core Ultra 9 285K. Thanks to its higher cache, it’s also 54% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
To enhance performance, AMD repositioned the cache beneath the CPU cores, allowing them to cool more efficiently and preventing one from bottlenecking the other. This design change aims to make CPU-intensive tasks faster and smoother, making the processor a solid choice for both gamers and content creators.
AMD is expected to start selling the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and its sibling in the coming months. The 9950X3D will retail for $800, while the 9900X3D will be priced at $700.
