Warzone Mobile to Shut Down Less Than a Year After Launch

Activision has confirmed it will discontinue Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, less than a year after its launch. The decision comes after the title failed to gain traction in the crowded mobile gaming space. According to the company, the game “did not meet expectations with mobile-first players the way it did with PC and console audiences.”

Although Warzone Mobile’s servers will remain online for now, Activision will remove the game from the Google Play Store and App Store on May 18, 2025. All seasonal updates and gameplay patches have also been discontinued, effectively marking the end of active development.

However, players who download the game before May 19 will still be able to access it, with continued cross-progression, shared inventories, and matchmaking through existing servers.

Naturally, in-game purchases like Call of Duty Points and the BlackCell pass have also been discontinued, though players can still redeem any unspent currency via the in-game Store.

Given the ambition and hype surrounding Warzone Mobile before launch, the shutdown is surprising. Marketed as a faithful adaptation of the original Warzone blended with elements from Modern Warfare (2019) it was designed specifically for mobile platforms but ultimately failed to deliver on expectations.

One of its standout features was cross-progression, which let Warzone console and PC players sync their inventories with the mobile version. This meant players could complete challenges and level up weapons across all platforms right from their phones without needing to power on their console or PC.

Unfortunately, Warzone Mobile’s rocky launch sealed its fate. Poor optimization turned players away almost instantly and most never returned. Android users had the worst experience, with even flagship phones suffering from extreme battery drain, overheating, and, in rare cases, becoming bricked. These issues led to widespread negative coverage, and now, less than 14 months later, Warzone Mobile is being shut down.
