Among its perks was the option for Android users to activate dark mode, but only for those with a Snapchat+ subscription. Now, however, this peculiar limitation is being lifted.
Recent reports from Android users on Twitter reveal that Snapchat is now allowing dark mode to be enabled without requiring a Snapchat+ subscription. It’s important to note that there could be some variability in this change, as a Snapchat support page still indicates that dark mode is exclusively for Snapchat+ subscribers.
Snapchat had initially introduced dark mode as an “early access” feature, indicating its intention to eventually offer it to all users. This approach mirrors platforms like YouTube, where certain features are tested with premium users before potential wider release. The paywalled dark mode was initially launched in April.
Despite undergoing several months of testing, Snapchat’s dark mode remains relatively basic compared to similar features in other apps.
