If you’ve been using the original Amazon Fire TV Stick, you’ve probably gotten an email from Netflix with some disappointing news. Starting June 3rd, Netflix will stop supporting streaming on those devices.
The email was sent to users who still have the first-gen Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote released back in 2016. For everyone else with newer Fire TV models, Netflix will continue to work as usual.
These devices are nearly ten years old, and Amazon has stopped providing updates for them. Because of this, they probably can’t handle the latest features and standards that come with Netflix’s premium plans. On top of that, Netflix has introduced new error codes for unsupported devices: R4, R12, and R25-1.
If you’re still using a first-gen Fire TV Stick, you might be eligible for a discount if you decide to upgrade to a newer model. Not sure which version you have? Just go to Settings > About > My Fire TV on your device, and you’ll see the model information there.
Sure, a Fire TV Stick isn’t too pricey, but it’s still frustrating to have to buy a new one just to keep watching Netflix. So, what will you do? Upgrade to a new Fire TV Stick or hold on to your current device and say goodbye to Netflix? Share your thoughts in the comments!
