How to Recover your Deleted Snapchat Memories

As I reminisced about the past, I noticed that some of my recently saved Snapchat Memories had gone missing or were possibly deleted. Determined not to lose them, I searched online for answers and found a solution that worked. If you’re also looking for a way to restore your lost Memories, keep reading as I explain how to recover deleted Memories on Snapchat for both Android and iOS.

Recover Snapchat Memories by Downloading Your Data

If you’ve backed up your Snapchat Memories and accidentally deleted them or can’t find them in the app, you can recover them from Snapchat’s servers. All your backed-up data is stored on their servers, and you can recover it by downloading your data. We’ve outlined the complete process for you below; take a look:

1. Launch Snapchat and tap on your Bitmoji icon located in the top left corner.

2. Tap the gear icon at the top right to access settings.

3. Scroll down to find “My Data.” Here, you can view and export all your Snapchat data.

4. Enable the toggle for “Include your Memories, Chat Media, and Shared Stories.”

5. Select the items you want to export by checking the “Memories and Other Media” box, then tap “Next.”

6. If you want to download data from a specific time range, such as last week, enable the toggle for it and choose the appropriate range.

7. Enter your email address to receive the export files, then tap “Submit.”

After a short wait, you’ll receive an email containing a link to download your data.

1. Open the link provided in the email using a web browser.

2. Locate “Your exports” and click on the blue “See exports” button.

3. Then, click on “Download” to save your Snapchat data.

The downloaded file will be in .zip format. You’ll need to extract its contents using a File Manager. Your Snapchat Memories will be found in a folder with the same name.

Clear Cache for Snapchat App

In addition to the method mentioned above, you can also clear the cache for Snapchat if you’re having trouble finding recently saved Memories. Cached data can become bloated and even corrupted over time, which can cause the app to malfunction and prevent your Memories from showing up. Clearing your cache data might help you resolve this issue. Here’s how to do it:

On Android:

1. Open the Settings on your Android phone.

2. Navigate to the Apps section and tap on All Apps.

3. Scroll down to find Snapchat and tap on it.

4. Now, tap on the Storage & cache option within the App Info page.

5. Finally, tap on Clear cache and then reopen the app to see if your Snapchat Memories have been recovered.

On iOS:

You can’t clear the cache directly like on Android. Instead, you can use the Offload app method, which clears the cache for the app without losing any data.

1. Open your Settings app on iPhone.

2. Navigate to the General and tap on iPhone Storage.

3. Find Snapchat in the list and tap on it.

4. Select the Offload App option.

5. Confirm by selecting Offload App in the prompt.

6. Reinstall the app by tapping on the Reinstall App option.

Update Snapchat to the Latest Version

Using outdated versions of the app can lead to certain features, like Memories, not working correctly. If you’ve disabled automatic updates and haven’t updated the app recently, it’s a good idea to do so now.

To update the app, visit the Google Play Store or iOS App Store and install the latest available version. After installation, open the app to see if your lost Memories reappear.

Properly Backup Memories on Snapchat

If your Snapchat Memories are not backed up, recovering them is essentially impossible. I’ve made this mistake before, so to help you avoid the same issue, here’s a guide on how to back up Memories on Snapchat.

1. Open Snapchat and tap on your Bitmoji icon in the top left corner.

2. Tap on the gear icon to access settings from your profile page.

3. In Settings, select the “Memories” option under “Privacy Controls.”

4. Turn on the toggle for Smart Backup.

Once the Backup Progress shows “Complete,” it confirms that your Memories have been successfully backed up.

This concludes the article and the methods you can use to recover your deleted Snapchat Memories. Memories, which are integral to an app focused on temporary messages and view-once photos, hold significant personal value. Many of us cherish the moments we’ve saved and enjoy revisiting them from time to time. If you’ve encountered difficulties locating your lost or deleted Memories, I hope this guide has been helpful to you.
