Since TikTok and its sister apps under ByteDance have faced challenges among U.S. users earlier this year, Meta and other social platforms have been stepping up their game. Instagram launched Edits as a response to CapCut, and now they’re adding one of its standout features — Beat editing.
Instagram recently revealed in a Creators post on Threads a new Beat Markers feature for the Edits app, along with several other enhancements. This beat editing tool automatically places markers on the timeline, making it easy to sync your audio, transitions, captions, or cuts precisely with the song’s rhythm.

Besides beat editing, the latest Instagram Edits update introduces preset animations and a variety of visual tweaks you can apply to your Reels. These effects include things like shaky camera recordings, altered color saturation, and more all available for you to explore in the app. So far, I haven’t gotten these new features on my version yet.
In addition to these updates, Instagram Edits recently gained some much-needed features like captions, animated texts, transitions, customizable frame rates for your timeline, and filters all things that were missing when I first tried the app.
With Instagram rolling out these tools, it raises the question: will Edits eventually replace CapCut? Especially since CapCut’s future in the U.S. is uncertain. Would you switch to Edits if CapCut gets banned, or are you already making the switch? Let us know in the comments below.
