Although GTA 6 is not yet imminent, it appears that Rockstar Games has begun to intensify its development of the upcoming installment. As per a report by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, Rockstar Games has instructed its employees to return to the office five days a week starting in April. This decision comes as the company’s highly anticipated title is progressing into the final stages of development.
Rockstar Games Staff Accelerate GTA 6 Development
Bloomberg verified that Rockstar’s Head of Publishing, Jenn Kolbe, outlined the decision in a staff email on Wednesday, citing productivity and security concerns. Given the company’s past struggles with leaks, the move is understandable.
Previously, Rockstar Games experienced significant data breaches, which involved leaks of the GTA 5 source code. Furthermore, in December, the highly anticipated GTA 6 trailer was leaked prematurely, prompting the company to release the official trailer earlier than planned.
In the email, Kolbe also highlighted the “tangible benefits” of in-person work, emphasizing,
“Making these adjustments now ensures that we are perfectly positioned to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto with the level of quality and refinement it requires, along with a publishing strategy that matches the game’s immense scale and ambition.”
With employees transitioning back to in-person work, the final stages of GTA 6 development may coincide with this timeline. Notably, numerous companies across different sectors are also urging their employees to return to the office. Nonetheless, a recent study indicates that remote work has no significant impact on productivity.
In 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (Review) became a major success, developed by remote workers at Insomniac Games. This comparison suggests that Rockstar Games’ emphasis on security during the final stages of GTA 6 development outweighs concerns about remote work.
Despite the additional workload, the release date remains unchanged. Nevertheless, witnessing the culmination of development is bound to be thrilling. Share your thoughts on the game’s progression into its final stage in the comments section below!
