The Nintendo Switch 2 has launched with remarkable momentum, setting new records in the console market. Nintendo reported that over 3.5 million units were sold worldwide within the first four days, surpassing all previous hardware launch records for the company. It has officially become the fastest-selling Nintendo console in that launch window, even outpacing the original Switch.
After widespread reports of a massive launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 in both the U.S. and around the world, it was only a matter of time before Nintendo made it official. In a post on X, Nintendo officially announced the milestone, naming the Switch 2 as the fastest-selling hardware the company has ever released.
Nintendo Switch 2 Sets New Milestone for Console Launch Sales
The numbers hold up impressively against other consoles as well. The PlayStation 4 once set the record with just over 1 million units sold in a single day, but reports suggest the Switch 2 matched and possibly surpassed that on its launch day. It also managed to more than double the original Switch’s launch dealsin the UK. Even in typically challenging markets like the UK and Spain, the console has posted record-breaking figures.
In Spain, it moved 108,000 units at launch, overtaking the PSP’s debut figure of 54,000. Early reports from France indicate that it also doubled the PS5’s launch sales there. A key contributor to this strong start was the high attach rate of Mario Kart World, which was bundled with some versions of the console.
Despite launching at a higher price than its predecessor, the Switch 2 has seen consistently strong demand. Nintendo managed to sidestep the supply shortages that plagued previous console launches, yet day-one stock still sold out at major retailers. Although it hasn’t surpassed the PlayStation 5’s UK launch numbers just yet, the Switch 2 is quickly narrowing the gap.
All attention now turns to the months ahead. If the current momentum holds, the Nintendo Switch 2’s record-breaking launch might be just the beginning potentially paving the way for it to become the next best-selling console in gaming history.
