Riot Renames Project L to 2XKO, Launching in 2025

Riot Games continues to impress with its diverse game portfolio, expanding into new genres. Initially teased as Project L in 2021, fans eagerly anticipated its reveal as a fighting game. Now, the wait ends as Riot Games unveils the title, officially naming it 2XKO.

Overview of 2XKO Gameplay: It Changed a Lot

In a previous overview last year, we discovered that Project L would feature a 2v2 tag fighting format. Riot has recently shared additional details in a year-in-preview video. This upcoming game will showcase all the beloved characters from the League of Legends universe in a contemporary aesthetic. Despite initial concerns about its visual appeal, significant improvements are evident now, with enhanced graphics and a distinctive art style setting the game apart.

While the characters will adopt modern personas, they will retain the fundamental traits familiar to League players. The duo mode will feature a cooperative option, allowing players to team up with friends. The new gameplay showcase reveals numerous distinctive visual cues, including hit counters and indicators for hard knockdowns.

The controls will be simplified, enhancing accessibility for new players. Senior Director Tom Cannon emphasizes the goal of replicating the enjoyment of arcade machines in the virtual realm. Additionally, he highlights the game’s commitment to the values of the Fighting Game Community (FGC) and pledges to incorporate community feedback over the coming year.

Release Date and Platforms for 2XKO: Playtest Link

As per official Riot’s announcement, 2XKO is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and PC in 2025. However, a playtest opportunity is now open for those eager to experience the game ahead of time.

2XKO will make an appearance at Evo Japan in April for an exclusive showcase and overview. You can sign up for the 2XKO playtest via this link. Additionally, it’s confirmed that the game will follow a free-to-play model, akin to League of Legends and Valorant.

I believe 2XKO has made significant strides since its initial reveal in August 2023. Are you excited about the transformation from Project L to 2XKO? Share your thoughts on what you’d like to see differently in this fighting game in the comments below.
