Great news for iPhone users who often forget to wear a watch or charge their phones: with iOS 18, your iPhone will still display the time even when the battery is completely drained.
Reddit user ant_t99 discovered this feature and shared an image of their iPhone 15 with a dead battery. The image shows the time displayed at the top left, the usual spot for the time when the phone is in use. This feature mirrors the Apple Watch’s Power Reserve mode, which also shows the time when the device is powered down.
In case you’re unaware, Power Reserve mode is what allows iPhones to remain “Findable” even when their battery is dead. With iOS 18, Apple is enhancing this feature by enabling the time to be displayed on iPhones with a dead battery. Essentially, you can now see the time on your iPhone for as long as it remains trackable on Find My.
Currently, this new time-keeping feature appears to be exclusive to iPhone 15 models. It’s not clear why older iPhones with Power Reserve mode can’t display the time in this low-power state, but it’s expected that this functionality will be extended to older iPhones when iOS 18 is officially released later this year.
Currently in developer beta, iOS 18 introduces several quality-of-life improvements for iPhones, including home screen customization, a T9 dialer, and more. We anticipate even more features will be revealed during the public beta testing phase.
