Google’s Gemini assistant has been available on smartphones for a while, but its reach has been limited until now. Rumors have circulated about Gemini expanding to other Google platforms like Android Auto, Automotive, and Wear OS. At the recent Android Show, Google officially unveiled Gemini’s arrival on Android Auto and connected cars. Here’s everything you need to know.

In its Android Show blog post, Google confirmed that Gemini will soon take over from Google Assistant in cars, both on Android Auto and vehicles with Google built-in. You’ll be able to summon Gemini using the same “Hey Google” prompt to ask questions, get navigation help, or find the best cafés nearby.

Just like on Android phones, Gemini in cars will connect with apps like YouTube Music, the Google Workspace suite, and Spotify, allowing you to control them effortlessly using voice commands. Google is also introducing Gemini Live to vehicles, enabling natural, distraction-free conversations where you can ask questions and get real-time answers on the go.

Gemini and Gemini Live are set to arrive later this year on Android Auto and cars with Google built-in. According to Google’s blog post, vehicles like the Lincoln Nautilus, Renault R5, and Honda Passport will be among the first to support this new AI experience.

While that’s exciting, Google hasn’t specified any hardware requirements for Gemini on Android Auto, suggesting that even older vehicles with built-in Android Auto may still be compatible.

So, what do you think about Gemini expanding to both Wear OS and now cars? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
