Google is investing significantly in Gemini Advanced, continually expanding its features and capabilities to match ChatGPT Plus. The tech titan has recently introduced the functionality to modify and execute Python code directly within Gemini’s interface.
You no longer need to export your code to platforms like Google Colab or Replit for testing. Gemini’s Python Interpreter functions similarly to ChatGPT’s Code Interpreter, now known as Advanced Data Analysis.
Google highlights that the new Python Interpreter in Gemini Advanced serves as a valuable tool for students and developers to validate their code’s functionality. Differing from ChatGPT’s Code Interpreter, this feature allows users to both edit and execute Python code. By clicking the “Run code” button below the code, users can view the output directly. Additionally, they can modify the code by clicking the “pencil” icon conveniently located alongside.
The new interpreter can be a time-saver, offering students opportunities to grasp concepts through code examples and observe how alterations yield different outcomes. It’s important to note that this interpreter differs from last year’s introduction of “Implicit code execution” with Bard.
However, Gemini’s Python Interpreter is solely dedicated to coding tasks. On the other hand, ChatGPT’s Code Interpreter is versatile, accommodating various tasks such as data analysis, graph generation, file format conversion, and more.
Users have the option to upload diverse file formats and instruct the Code Interpreter to visualize data or execute specialized tasks. Additionally, it includes over 300 Python packages within a sandboxed environment.
Despite this, the inclusion of a Python Interpreter in Gemini Advanced marks a significant enhancement, and I anticipate further expansion of its capabilities by Google in the future. It’s worth noting that the new code interpreter is exclusive to Gemini Advanced, the paid version of Gemini.
Included with the potent Gemini 1.0 Ultra model, Gemini Advanced is priced at $20 per month. Currently, Google is providing a two-month free trial, accompanied by Google One perks like 2TB storage and AI features in Docs, Gmail, and beyond.
