OpenAI is rolling out improved memory capabilities for ChatGPT to make the AI more personalized and interactive. With this update, ChatGPT can now remember more details from your previous conversations, reducing the need to repeat information. Previously, ChatGPT could only reference ‘saved memories,’ but now it can access and recall all past chats for a more seamless experience.

As a result, you’ll notice more personalized responses from ChatGPT. The AI now adapts to your unique interests and preferences. While the improved memory feature may seem like a small update, it has the potential to transform ChatGPT into a highly personal and useful AI companion over time.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman remarked, “This is a surprisingly great feature, in my opinion, and it points to something we’re excited about: AI systems that get to know you over your life and become extremely useful and personalized.

New conversations will feel much more relevant as ChatGPT becomes more attuned to your preferences, delivering responses tailored to your liking. If you have privacy concerns, you can turn off the memory feature altogether in settings. Additionally, the Temporary Chat feature allows you to prevent ChatGPT from remembering specific conversations.

The improved memory feature is rolling out today for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. However, users in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein will need to wait to access the new feature. ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and Edu users will also receive the update in the coming weeks.
