Apple May Rebrand Apple ID to ‘Apple Account’ in 2024: Report

According to sources familiar with Apple’s plans, the tech giant is considering rebranding its widely recognized Apple ID to ‘Apple Account‘. Reports from MacRumors suggest that Apple is currently exploring this new name, which could potentially be introduced as early as this year.

An Apple ID serves as a central account for all things Apple, granting access to various services including iCloud, the App Store, Apple Pay, Apple Music, and more. Upon initial setup of an Apple device, users are prompted to create or use an existing Apple ID. Using the same Apple ID across multiple devices ensures automatic synchronization of content and settings.

If Apple’s plans proceed as anticipated, the rebranding of ‌Apple ID‌ to Apple Account could coincide with the release of iOS 18 (Codename Crystal) and macOS 15 (Codename Glow) later in 2024. Notably, the term “Apple Account” has already appeared in Apple’s support documentation, including references such as “Apple Account Balance”. Sources indicate that Apple is gearing up to replace all instances of “‌Apple ID‌” with “Apple Account” as part of its extensive rebranding efforts.

2024 seems to be a year of significant changes for Apple. Alongside the potential renaming of its iconic ‌Apple ID‌, the company has recently revised its Apple Store guidelines to permit sideloading on iOS 17 and announced the discontinuation of its long-running Electric Car Project. This potential rebranding reflects Apple’s ongoing evolution and commitment to refining its brand identity.

The reasons behind Apple’s consideration to rebrand Apple ID remain undisclosed at present. Apple typically maintains multiple marketing names in preparation for the launch of new services or products. For example, during the development of the operating system for the Vision Pro headset, Apple utilized three different names internally: realityOS, xrOS, and visionOS.

While the potential renaming of Apple ID to Apple Account is under consideration, there’s also the possibility that the branding change may not materialize for various reasons. As information is currently limited, we’ll provide updates as additional leaks surface in the coming weeks.
