Over the years, several AAA games have landed on the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. However, there’s always been a missing piece a unified hub to manage your games and achievements. According to a new report, Apple may soon unveil a new Xbox-inspired gaming app that’s set to replace Game Center.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is reportedly working on a new gaming hub-style app for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. This app will allow users to launch installed games, view leaderboards, and track in-game achievements all in one place. It’s shaping up to be Apple’s answer to Google Play Games on Android or the Xbox app.
On Macs, the app will even support launching games installed outside the App Store. So, if you’ve downloaded a game from Steam, you’ll still be able to open it directly from Apple’s gaming hub. This new app is expected to launch alongside the next iOS and macOS updates this September, with early access likely available through the iOS 19 beta.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this gaming app. Last year, we reported that it would combine Apple Arcade, Game Center, and the App Store into a single platform. It might also integrate iMessage and FaceTime features to enhance the social side of gaming.
Apple recently made its first gaming studio acquisition, according to Bloomberg. They purchased RAC7, the creators of Sneaky Sasquatch one of the early hits on Apple Arcade. While there aren’t any announced plans for the studio yet, this move clearly signals Apple’s growing interest in the gaming world.
