Apple is anticipated to announce iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 in June, following the usual yearly tradition. However, this year, there’s extra excitement surrounding the new OS, with reports suggesting a significant redesign, similar in scale to what we saw with iOS 7. If you’re eager to learn more about what iOS 19 will bring before its official reveal at the June 9 keynote, here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming update.
What Is the iOS 19 Release Date?
Apple is set to unveil iOS 19 at WWDC 2025 on June 9. Following the usual timeline, the iOS 19 developer beta is expected to be released immediately after the announcement, with a public beta likely available in July. The stable version of iOS 19 is anticipated to launch alongside the iPhone 17 series in September 2025.
iOS 19 Leaks & Rumored Features
These are the rumors churning around in the rumor mills for iOS 19. Since the official release is still a few months away and Apple typically keeps features under wraps until the announcement, these are rumors and iOS 19 leaks gathered from reputable sources. However, it’s important to take everything you read with a grain of salt, as nothing is set in stone just yet.
1. A visionOS-inspired Redesign
One of the biggest reports for iOS 19 is a major UI and UX overhaul, inspired by visionOS. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this redesign will go beyond a simple aesthetic refresh, with significant tweaks to both the look and user experience. If true, it will transform how users interact with Apple’s devices.
The redesign is said to include floating windows and glass-like aesthetics across apps, and it will also extend to iPadOS 19 and macOS 16, ensuring consistency across Apple’s ecosystem. Adopting design principles from visionOS, this overhaul will feature transparent menus, rounded icons, and new buttons. Apple’s recent app, Apple Invites, already showcases transparent elements, adding weight to these iOS 19 design rumors and hinting at the new direction Apple is heading.
As previously reported, a new leak from Front Page Tech reveals more about iOS 19’s design changes. According to the video, app icons are said to have a shape between a square and a circle, rather than being fully round. However, Prosser suggests that these icons could still become completely round by the time iOS 19 is previewed in June. Additionally, some controls in the Control Center have also received a similar rounded treatment.
Reportedly, Apple is introducing a pill-shaped tab bar at the bottom of apps in iOS 19. This new Tab Bar will feature a Tab View icon and a search bar. Tapping the Tab View icon will expand the bar to display different tabs within the app. The Tab Bar is not exclusive to Apple’s own apps it’s expected that third-party app developers will also have the option to incorporate this feature into their apps.
There will also be other minor changes in iOS 19, such as elongated toggles in the Settings app and a shimmer effect for lock screen controls.
While some reports have compared the redesign to the dramatic shift seen with iOS 7, others believe the changes may be more iterative, offering a fresh aesthetic rather than a complete overhaul. Regardless of the scale of the redesign, all reports agree that a redesign is definitely on the horizon.
2. Redesigned Camera and Messages app
Reports suggest that iOS 19 will also bring a redesign for the Camera app. As previously reported by AzMo Tech, Jon Prosser shared the new design for the Camera app on his YouTube channel. The updated layout will feature just two tabs at the bottom: Photo and Video. The remaining options will appear when you tap on either of the two tabs.
For instance, tapping the ‘Photo’ tab may reveal options like Depth, Spatial, Pano, Style, Aspect, Exposure, and Timer, while the ‘Video’ tab could include options for Depth, Spatial, Slow-Mo, Time-Lapse, Action, and Exposure.
The menus will be transparent, in line with the proposed visionOS-like redesign across apps in iOS 19.
In addition to the Camera app, Jon Prosser has hinted that the Messages app will also see a redesign. This might include rounded, transparent buttons for back navigation and FaceTime at the top, along with a rounded keyboard at the bottom. The Messages app could also feature a persistent search bar at the bottom.
After the iOS 19 leaks, Gurman stated that the leaks seemed to be based on “very old builds or vague descriptions, missing key features.” However, in the new video Prosser shared, he called out Gurman’s comment, stating that they’ve now seen the latest builds, and their report reflects that updated information.
3. Personalized Siri
Personalized Siri, originally planned to debut alongside other AI features in iOS 18, might now make its way to iOS 19 instead. Apple announced the delay last month, marking what has become the company’s biggest crisis in decades. What adds to the embarrassment is the fact that Apple has not provided a concrete timeline for when the feature will finally be released.
So, while we’re hopeful to see Personalized Siri by iOS 19.4 next year, there’s still a chance it might not happen. If you’re not in the loop, Apple had planned the following Siri upgrades as part of the Apple Intelligence push:
- Personal Context: Siri will be able to track your personal information across emails, messages, files, and more to offer a more personalized experience. For example, if you ask, “What’s my driver’s license number?” and the information is stored in your Photos app, Siri will retrieve it for you.
- Onscreen Awareness: Siri will be able to recognize the information displayed on your screen and take actions accordingly. For instance, if you’re texting someone and get a link, you can ask Siri to add it to your bookmarks, and Siri will understand what to do.
- Take Actions Across Apps: Siri will have the ability to perform multi-app actions that weren’t possible before. For example, it could edit photos and send them to someone, retrieve data from a document, and email it to someone on your behalf, and much more.
Note:
Apple is also working on a major overhaul for Siri, aiming to bring its capabilities on par with other large language model (LLM) chatbots like ChatGPT. However, due to the delays in the rollout of Personalized Siri, it’s unlikely that this smarter version, codenamed LLM Siri, will arrive with iOS 19.
4. Revamped Health App with an AI Doctor
While Apple is still struggling to ship some of the AI features it previously announced, new reports hint that even more AI enhancements are on the way. With iOS 19.4, the company reportedly plans to introduce an “AI Doctor” within the Health app, which itself is getting a major overhaul. This AI-powered health assistant will offer personalized health recommendations by analyzing the data gathered by the app.
According to Gurman, iOS 19 will bring additional health features as well. For example, the AI agent is expected to evaluate workout performance, thanks to the Health app gaining access to the iPhone’s camera. While there’s some skepticism around how this might work in practice, it’s a promising step toward making AI-driven healthcare insights more widely accessible.
5. Live Translation for AirPods
Apple is also developing a Live Translation feature for AirPods, expected to debut with iOS 19. This feature will integrate with the existing Translate app to offer real-time translation through AirPods. For instance, if someone wearing AirPods speaks English and is conversing with a French speaker, the AirPods will automatically detect and translate French into English. While the Translate app already supports this functionality, enabling it directly on AirPods will make the experience much more seamless.
These are the major rumored features expected to arrive with iOS 19. While we’ll likely see more additions as the release nears, reports indicate that Apple may move away from its usual annual release cycle for new features. Instead, it may opt to release them when they’re truly ready — a potentially smart move, considering the company’s recent difficulties delivering all the features announced at WWDC 2024.
Which iPhones Will Get iOS 19?
According to a recent leak, Apple is reportedly removing the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max from the list of iOS 19 supported devices. While this isn’t official yet, the leak comes from an anonymous and private X (formerly Twitter) account known for accurate past reports, so there’s a good chance it could be true. If the leak holds up, the list of iOS 19 compatible devices would include:
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (2nd gen)
- iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, 13 Pro Max
- iPhone SE (3rd gen)
- iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, 16e
Of course, the iPhone 17 lineup iPhone 17, 17 Plus, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and the rumored iPhone 17 Air will come preloaded with the iOS 19 update.
That’s all the information currently floating around about iOS 19, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most significant updates in years.
