Call of Duty is expected to continue its annual release pattern with the rumored Black Ops 7, set to launch this year. Leakers have hinted at key details, such as the return of the original Zombies crew, a futuristic Japan setting, and new plans for the Battle Pass system. However, reports suggest Activision is considering monetizing Limited-Time Modes in a controversial way, sparking backlash from fans.

Black Ops 7 Might Introduce Pay-to-Play Limited-Time Events

According to serial leaker TheGhostofHope on X (formerly Twitter), Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (CoD 2025) will introduce seasonal Limited-Time Modes (LTMs) locked behind the paid Battle Pass. This marks a major shift from the current model, where players can access LTMs for free, but premium rewards like skins and blueprints are behind the Event Pass.

The leak claims that “Black Ops 7 will reportedly feature more seasonal LTMs, some of which will be considered ‘higher value,’ with unique rewards and gameplay mechanics. However, the only way to access these LTMs will be through the Battle Pass, unlike the current system where they’re available to all players.”

Additionally, the leaker stated, “Higher-tier skins, loot, and crossover operators for LTMs will be locked behind the Battle Pass, replacing the ‘Premium Event Track’ that we currently get during Reloaded updates.”

Reactions to the report have been largely negative, with players accusing Activision of excessive monetization. While it’s hard to dismiss these concerns, it’s worth noting that the change has yet to be officially confirmed. As for the reasoning behind such a move, it’s speculated that Microsoft may be trying to make up for the revenue lost from bundling new Call of Duty titles with Game Pass through additional microtransactions like this.

We’ll have to wait and see if this new system comes to fruition. However, if it does, many players may miss out on key seasonal content that keeps Call of Duty games fresh throughout the year.

What are your thoughts on the leak? Would you be willing to pay for higher-quality LTMs? Let us know in the comments.
