X Introduces AI-Powered Summaries for Trending News

X (formerly Twitter) is a hub for the latest news and discussions, but keeping up with posts and replies can be overwhelming. In order to encounter this, X has launched a new stories feature that uses the Grok AI chatbot, exclusive to platform, to compressed posts into story. This will ensure streamline trending discussions on the app.

The X Engineering account announced the new feature on Friday, sharing a few screenshots to illustrate how it works. The feature will be available on the For You page, and opening a story will display a brief summary, similar to a news article, instead of individual posts about the topic.

This new feature will make it easier for readers to catch up on topics of interest without having to scroll through unrelated memes and posts. However, X cautions users to “verify Grok’s outputs” as the AI can lead to unwanted mistakes while summarising stories.

Currently, the feature is available only to X Premium users and can be accessed from the For You page in the Explore section of the app. X Stories is exclusive to iOS and Web, with no information yet on when it will be available for Android devices. Grok itself can be found in the middle of the bottom toolbar.

This feature isn’t entirely new to the platform; Twitter attempted something similar in 2020 by adding headlines and descriptions to trending discussions, albeit without AI. However, this new addition will be useful for users like me who want to quickly understand why a topic is trending. What are your thoughts on this feature? Would you find it helpful?
