WhatsApp remains one of the top messaging platforms worldwide, thanks to its consistent rollout of new and engaging features. In a recent blog post, the company detailed its latest updates, which we’ll explore below. There’s plenty to unpack, so let’s dive in starting with enhancements to WhatsApp group chats.
One of the standout additions is the new “Online” indicator for group chats, allowing users to see which members are currently active. WhatsApp has also introduced customizable group notifications, giving users the choice between receiving alerts for “All” messages or just the “Highlights,” which include mentions and replies to your messages.

The Events attachment feature, previously highlighted in our March update, is now available in personal chats. WhatsApp is also introducing tappable reactions, much like Slack. With this, you can see who reacted with which emoji, and tap on the same one to +1 their reaction. Additionally, iPhone users can now set WhatsApp as their default app for Calls and Messages.
Video calling is getting several upgrades as well. You can now pinch to zoom during video calls and add someone to an ongoing call directly from a chat by tapping the call icon and selecting “Add to call.” WhatsApp has also enhanced the video calling experience by optimizing its routing system to ensure the best possible connection path.
Video notes a handy feature for recording quick clips and voice message transcripts are now available for Channel admins. Additionally, admins can generate and share a unique QR code that links directly to their Channels.
That wraps up all the latest features now available on WhatsApp. If you don’t see them on your device yet, be sure to update the app to the latest version. Personally, I’m enjoying the improved group notification controls they’ve really helped cut down on the constant pings from busy group chats.
