Since its inception, Nothing OS has evolved significantly from Android 12 to Android 15. Recently, the brand released Nothing OS 3.1 based on Android 15 with the Phone (3a) series, and now it’s time for an Android 16-based version. As Google progresses toward Android 16, with manufacturers like OnePlus already in beta testing, Nothing is likely to follow soon. Here’s a list of Nothing phones eligible for the Android 16 update.

Android 16: Compatible Nothing Phones List

Nothing has yet to announce its update roadmap for Android 16. Interestingly, unlike last year, the company is not listed as one of the Android 16 Beta partners shared by Google. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean a delay for Nothing phones, as the company has previously outpaced major smartphone brands with its rapid updates.

The upcoming flagship, the Phone (3), is expected to launch in Q3 (around July). With Android 16 set for stable release in May, it’s likely the Phone (3) will come with Android 16 pre-installed. We can anticipate the update for other Nothing phones around the same time, though these projections should be taken with caution, as updates may be delayed due to critical bugs.

Android 16 Compatible Nothing Phones

Nothing Phone (2) and later models will be eligible for Android 16. Unfortunately, the Nothing Phone (1) will not receive the update as it has surpassed its three-year update limit. It launched with Android 12 and last received Android 15. The following devices are eligible for the Android 16 update:

  • Nothing Phone (2)
  • Nothing Phone (2a)
  • Nothing Phone (2a) Plus / Community Edition
  • Nothing Phone (3a)
  • Nothing Phone (3a) Pro

Android 16 Compatible CMF Phones

The CMF Phone 1 launched with Android 14 and has since been updated to Android 15. Since Nothing promises two major updates for its CMF devices, it will also receive Android 16. Additionally, the upcoming CMF Phone 2 Pro may launch with Android 15 but will be upgradeable to Android 16 shortly after.

  • CMF Phone 1
  • CMF Phone 2 Pro (Coming soon)

These are the Nothing devices slated for the Android 16 update. It’s still uncertain if Nothing OS will upgrade from version 3.0 to 4.0, and we can’t discuss potential Android 16 features until Nothing officially announces the Android 16 Beta.

It will be interesting to see whether Nothing introduces new features or if the next version will be a simple increment. Rumors suggest Android 16-based One UI 8 may come to eligible Samsung devices.

What are your expectations for the upcoming Android 16-based Nothing OS? Is your device eligible for the update? Let us know in the comments.
