Google was relatively late to introduce screen recording on Android and Pixel devices compared to other manufacturers. The feature was added in Android 11 and has since received significant improvements. Using the screen recorder on a Google Pixel is straightforward and offers several additional features. If you’re new to Pixels, here’s how to screen record.

How to Record Screen on Google Pixel

Most Google Pixel devices include a built-in screen recorder accessible from quick settings. Here’s how to use it:

  • Swipe down twice from the top edge of your phone to open the expanded Quick Settings menu.
  • Tap the Screen recording tile. If it’s not visible, swipe left to find more tiles.
  • In the “Record your screen?” popup, choose an option from the dropdown: Record one app to capture only the current app or Record entire screen to capture everything.
  • Depending on your choice, toggle on/off Record audio and Show touches on screen. The audio option allows you to record device audio or microphone input.
  • If capturing the entire screen, tap the Record screen button to start recording.
  • If you selected Record one app in Step 3, tap Next and choose the app you want to record or open it from the list.
  • The recording will begin with a three-second countdown. To stop recording, tap the red timer pill at the top left and select Stop recording.
  • All recordings are saved in the Photos app under the “Movies” folder.

Pixel’s screen recording feature is effective and includes privacy options: notifications are hidden during recording, a toast message appears when recording starts, and the screen dims when entering a password.
