Matching with someone on Tinder and going on a date can be thrilling, but it often comes with pre-date jitters about meeting a stranger for the first time. To help ease these concerns, it’s a good idea to inform your friends and family about your date plans. Now, you can do this directly from the Tinder app with the new Share My Date feature. Share My Date allows you to share your date plans, including the profile of the person you’re meeting, as well as the location and time of the date. You can set up these details up to thirty days in advance and share them with your loved ones via a link. If your plans change, you can easily update the information accordingly.
The shared links will be viewable by anyone, even if they don’t have the Tinder app installed on their phones. However, Tinder users can view the full profile of the person you’re going out with, although they won’t be able to message them. Those not on Tinder will only see the person’s name, age, and photos. Note that shared links expire after a certain time, likely after the date.
Tinder introduced this feature based on data showing that over half of singles (51%) under 30 already inform friends about their date details. Additionally, new in-app polling data reveals that one in five Tinder users (18%) share their date plans with their mom. This feature will gradually roll out across the U.S., U.K., Australia, Canada, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, India, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Brazil, Singapore, Switzerland, Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand in the coming months.
This much-needed safety feature addresses the uncertainty of meeting someone new online. It’s a step forward in ensuring user safety, and it would be beneficial for other dating apps to adopt similar measures. What are your thoughts on this feature? Do you think you will use it?
