WWDC 2024: iOS 18 Introduces Call Recording for iPhones

At WWDC 2024, Apple announced a plethora of new features for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple Watches. The highlight of the event was Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of AI features, including a completely revamped Siri. One of the most notable announcements was that call recording is finally coming to iPhones with iOS 18.

On stage, Craig Federighi revealed that new AI recording and transcription features will be integrated into the Notes and Phone apps. This means you will now be able to natively record calls on iPhones. Previously, there was no official method to record calls on iPhones, and users had to rely on third-party apps that utilized call routing functionality, most of which were paid solutions.

While Android has long offered a call recording feature, Apple is now joining the party with iOS 18. Currently, the specifics of how call recording will work on iOS 18 remain unclear, as Apple has not provided a demonstration. Additionally, it’s important to note that some countries have strict laws regarding call recording. For instance, in India, a statutory message must be announced before a call is recorded.

According to Apple’s official iOS 18 webpage, users will be able to “Record and transcribe a live call directly from the Phone app.” The call recording feature in iOS 18 will be available in English in the U.S., UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, and Singapore, as well as in Spanish in the U.S., Mexico, and Spain. The feature will also be available in France, Germany, Japan, China, and Brazil in their respective native languages.
