Google Search AI Overviews Now Assessable to Everyone in the US

Google has revealed that AI search overviews are now accessible to all users in the United States. Formerly referred to as SGE or Search Generative Engine, this feature can be accessed on Google search for the web, Android, and the iOS app. AI Overviews are expected to roll out to other countries by the end of this year.

This feature provides AI-summarized answers that are brief and direct, enabling users to find information more quickly. Sundar Pichai highlighted at Google I/O 2024 how this feature has altered search behavior, prompting users to pose new types of queries.

AI overviews will appear in a gradient color at the top of search results, situated below the search bar, as illustrated in the screenshot above.

Google also introduced multi-step reasoning, allowing users to pose complex questions. You can ask several questions in a single query, and Gemini will break it down and search for keywords to compile your answers. Follow-up questions can be asked to receive highly personalized results in a well-organized format.

The feature was initially available to a limited number of users last year. This year, the availability expanded to include more users, but to access it, users needed to sign up for the feature within Google Search Labs experiments.

Google has also announced upcoming features, including the ability to search through videos using Gemini, along with multi-step reasoning. These enhancements aim to make searching on Google more engaging and effortless. Imagine being able to type out any random thought and have Gemini not only make sense of it but also assist you with your query.
