Since Elon Musk assumed control of X (formerly Twitter), numerous modifications have been implemented. Among the significant alterations was the rollout of a subscription tier, initially named Twitter Blue and now referred to as X Premium, presenting exclusive features like the coveted blue verification checkmark. However, not all users were enthusiastic about paying for it. Now, it appears that the X Premium subscription can be acquired at no cost.
Elon Musk declared in an X announcement on Thursday, “Moving forward, all š¯•¸ accounts with more than 2500 verified subscriber followers will receive Premium features at no charge, while accounts with over 5000 will be granted Premium+ for free.”
If you haven’t upgraded to the paid plan yet, you can enjoy all the benefits of these plans at no cost. However, there’s a condition: you must have a substantial following of verified X users subscribed to either X Premium or Premium+.
The Premium tier offers features such as the blue checkmark, fewer ads, post-editing capabilities, longer post/video lengths, prioritized replies, ID verification, and more. Additionally, it provides access to Grok, X’s in-app AI assistant, which was previously exclusive to the higher-priced Premium+ tier.
All these features would have cost you $8 per month or $84 annually for the Premium tier. Meanwhile, the Premium+ tier is priced at $16 per month or $168 per year.
This approach could potentially serve as a novel method for promoting authentic users, akin to the previous function of the blue tick. With the Premium membership verifying accounts and adding a blue checkmark, it could also assist users in accessing X Premium features without additional charges.
While many of Mr. Musk’s declarations tend to spark controversy, I believe this particular announcement represents a positive stride forward. It has the potential to aid numerous accounts in gaining essential visibility on the platform. Share your thoughts on this latest announcement in the comments below.
