WhatsApp Web to Soon Introduce Chat Lock Feature

WhatsApp Web and the desktop app have historically lacked some features available on the mobile app. Notably, the Chat lock feature, which allows users to lock individual chats for added privacy, has been absent. However, recent reports suggest that this highly requested feature will soon be available on WhatsApp Web.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the latest update includes a Chat Lock icon in the sidebar tab, indicating the imminent addition of this feature. Once implemented, users will be able to access their locked chats on the web client and even add new chats to the locked folder.

As depicted in the screenshot above, the padlock icon serves as the representation for Chat Lock in the sidebar. This suggests that locked chats will have their dedicated tab on the web interface. Additionally, there may be an option to hide this tab behind a secure passcode. It’s possible that the web app will leverage the passkey system recently introduced to WhatsApp for chat protection.

For those unfamiliar, the chat lock feature on WhatsApp enables users to lock individual chats and conceal them within a separate folder. On mobile devices, these chats are hidden from the main chat screen and can only be accessed using the device’s screen lock. This functionality proves useful for conversations that users prefer to keep private.

Although the feature is still in development, its forthcoming introduction to the web app could coincide with a redesign. Are you currently using the chat lock feature on WhatsApp’s mobile app? Are you eagerly anticipating its arrival on the web platform? Do let us know in the comments below.
