You Can Now Delete Your Threads Account Independently from Instagram

It’s great to hear that Meta’s Threads app has been positively received as a contender to the X platform, previously known as Twitter. Initially, users faced a significant issue where deleting their Threads profile meant removing their Instagram account as well. However, Meta has taken note of user feedback and is implementing some welcome changes regarding account deletion.

Deleting Threads Account Independently from Instagram: Details

Adam Missouri, the head of Instagram, recently announced two significant updates on the Threads platform. The standout change is the ability for users to finally delete their Threads account independently of their Instagram profile.

That’s fantastic news! With this new update that’s currently being rolled out, users will now have the ability to delete their Threads account separately. This enhanced control over their online presence on Instagram and Threads allows users to decide between deactivating or deleting their profile. This action won’t impact their Instagram profile in any way. To initiate the deletion process for your Threads account, simply navigate to Settings > Accounts > Delete or Deactivate Profile.

The recent update also includes another privacy-focused change. Now, content shared on the Threads platform can be visible on other Meta-owned social media apps like Facebook and Instagram, expanding its reach. However, feedback suggests that users should have manual control over this feature instead of it being automatic.

Following the recent update, users can now access a new Privacy setting for content posted on the Threads app by navigating to Settings > Privacy. This setting offers the choice to ‘opt out of being featured outside Threads,’ as highlighted in the update notes from Instagram’s head.

What are your thoughts on the new Threads account deletion feature? Meta’s responsiveness to feedback seems promising. It’ll be intriguing to observe the trajectory of X (formerly Twitter) and Threads in the coming year. Share your opinions in the comments below!
