Xiaomi’s foray into the electric vehicle market has sparked considerable excitement since its initial announcement. In keeping with their earlier declarations, Xiaomi has now revealed an upcoming year-end event dedicated to showcasing the technology underpinning their forthcoming electric vehicles (EVs).
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, chose Christmas day to announce the Xiaomi EV Technology launch event via X (formerly Twitter). This event is set for December 28 at 2:00 PM Beijing Time (11:30 AM IST or 10:00 PM PT). Notably, he specified that the event will focus solely on unveiling the technology, without any product launches scheduled.
Xiaomi has been a subject of persistent speculation regarding its venture into the electric vehicle sector, and it appears that the company has made significant progress in this direction. Confident in its advancements, Xiaomi is poised to unveil the EV technology that will drive its future automotive endeavors.
Recent reports suggest that Xiaomi has been actively collaborating with Chinese regulatory authorities to secure the necessary permissions for EV manufacturing. Evidently positioning itself to compete with established players like Tesla and BYD in the electric vehicle domain, Xiaomi is reportedly gearing up to introduce three variants of its EV cars – namely, the SU7 EV, SU7 Pro EV, and SU7 Max EV.
Alleged images of Xiaomi’s upcoming EV sedans have surfaced on X, suggesting an aesthetically appealing design that’s drawing attention. I’m keen to experience it firsthand and am requesting the Xiaomi India team for a test ride opportunity. Leaks also indicate that all three variants will feature a 3000mm wheelbase, with the SU7 model offering 295 bhp of horsepower while the SU7 Pro and SU7 Max models boast a total power output of 664 bhp of horsepower. The latter two models will incorporate dual electric motors, while the SU7 will have a single motor configuration.
