The upcoming Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is creating quite a buzz, as it’s set to be the slimmest horizontal foldable device yet. CEO Lei Jun recently shared some images and dropped hints about its sleek design. Now, more details have surfaced about this exciting new foldable, which is all set to launch on August 14.
In terms of dimensions, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 will be 4.93mm thick when unfolded and 9.8mm when folded. Just to give you an idea, the previous Mix Fold 2 measured 5.4mm when unfolded and 11.2mm when folded. As for the current record holder, the Honor Magic V2, it’s 4.7mm when unfolded and 9.9mm when folded.
This means Xiaomi is about to steal the “slimmest foldable” title from Honor, and it’s achieved this feat through a clever hinge redesign. The new hinge is crafted from high-strength steel and durable carbon ceramic materials. This innovative 3-stage connecting rod design is more intricate, featuring 14 movable parts and a total of 198 components. This is a step up from the Mix Fold 2’s 2-stage design, which had 8 movable parts out of a total of 87.
The hinge of the Mix Fold 3 is quite versatile, capable of holding the phone at any angle between 45° and 135° when partially opened. Its durability has even been tested and verified by TÜV Rheinland, who confirmed that it can withstand an impressive 500,000 folds.
More juicy details about the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 have emerged as well. The device boasts an 8.02-inch internal display and a 6.5-inch cover display, both featuring a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. These dimensions are quite similar to the 2022 model.
But wait, there’s more! The Fold 3 will sport a dual telephoto camera setup, including a 5x periscope lens (115mm) and a 3.2x telephoto camera. Notably, all three modules, including the main camera, will come with Optical Image Stabilization and Leica Vario-Summicron lenses.
While the battery capacity remains a mystery for now, Xiaomi proudly claims that the phone will easily last over a day (“1.34 days” to be precise). According to leaked details, it appears that the device will be compatible with 67W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
