Wuthering Waves Tier List – Top Resonators

Despite initial performance issues, Wuthering Waves has become a huge success and offers an incredibly fun experience. The game showcases top-tier characters (Resonators) in the gacha genre, each offering distinct playstyles. Since you can only build teams with three Resonators at a time, here is the Wuthering Waves character tier list ranking the best Resonators in the game.

Wuthering Waves Tier List: S-Tier Resonators

S-tier Resonators are the top characters in Wuthering Waves. They offer the most value for any team and can help players overcome the game’s toughest challenges.

1. Verina

Verina is arguably the best Resonator in Wuthering Waves and definitely the top supporter character. She excels as an off-field healer and buffer, requiring only a few seconds on-field to maximize her kit’s effectiveness. Verina can sustain any team on her own without sacrificing the team’s DPS output.

2. Danjin

Danjin is one of the strongest sub-DPS characters in Wuthering Waves, featuring one of the most powerful intro-skills in the game. While some might question her S-tier placement due to her double-edged nature, her skill has zero downtime and can be spammed endlessly, albeit at the cost of her own health. This makes her challenging to use, as she can quickly drop to low HP and die from mistakes. However, players skilled at dodging will excel with Danjin, tearing through Tacet Discords with ease.

3. Havoc Rover

Havoc Rover stands as one of the game’s most potent DPS characters, particularly formidable when outfitted with the Dreamless Echo. With careful utilization and optimization, Havoc Rover can swiftly annihilate nearly any foe. As the game’s protagonist, the character requires minimal investment and unlocks two of their Resonance Chains through in-game missions.

4. Jiyan

Jiyan, the general of the Midnight Rangers, is also one of the game’s top DPS characters and firmly deserves his place in the Wuthering Waves S-tier. Focused on heavy attacks and strong AoE damage, Jiyan is extremely easy to play and can wipe out entire groups of enemies on his own after using his Resonance Liberation.

5. Encore

Encore is also one of the strongest DPS characters in Wuthering Waves, capable of delivering massive damage in short bursts with her Resonance Skill and Forte abilities. Her primary source of damage amplification occurs following the activation of her Resonance Liberation, significantly boosting all her attacks. For 10 seconds after activating Resonance Liberation, both her Resonance Skill and Forte can inflict very high damage. Yet, mastering Encore can be challenging due to the necessity of charging many of her abilities, particularly her enhanced Resonance Forte. Players who can perfect Encore’s skills will be able to take down any boss with ease.

Wuthering Waves Tier List: A-Tier Resonators

Wuthering Waves A-Tier Resonators are also very strong and can help you tackle most of the hardest challenges. However, they fall short in some areas compared to S-Tier characters, though this may change with future updates.

1. Calcharo

Calcharo was one of the most loved characters at release, offering an incredibly enjoyable playstyle. As a main Electro DPS, he can deal significant damage with his evasion-focused attacks that enhance his damage and make fights fun. However, in terms of raw damage output, Calcharo falls slightly short of S-tier DPS characters, which is why he is placed in A-tier.

2. Spectro Rover

Spectro Rover is a surprisingly versatile character for both early and end-game content in Wuthering Waves 1.0. As a hybrid character with strong cleave and effective healing abilities, Spectro Rover is easy to invest in, much like Havoc Rover. Players can also build both Spectro Rover and Havoc Rover simultaneously, making it a worthwhile investment.

3. Mortefi

Mortefi is one of the strongest sub-DPS characters in the game, capable of significantly amplifying any main DPS’s damage output, especially once his first Resonance Chain ability is unlocked. While staying off-field, Mortefi can attack alongside your main DPS when they use their Resonance Skill. Investing in Mortefi is highly worthwhile, as he can greatly boost the damage output of any team.

4. Sanhua

Sanhua is one of the free Resonators given as a login bonus at release in Wuthering Waves. Unlike many free characters, Sanhua is a very strong Glacio DPS who can outshine some 5-star DPS characters when built correctly. As the bodyguard to the magistrate of Jinzhou City, Sanhua truly fulfills her role as a powerful and effective character.

Wuthering Waves Tier List: B-Tier Resonators

B-Tier characters in Wuthering Waves are solid for early-game and can be decent in late-game scenarios. However, they either deal less damage compared to S-Tier or A-Tier characters or have other significant issues that make them less worth investing in.

1. Lingyang

Lingyang is one of my favorite characters in Wuthering Waves, but he does have some significant issues as a DPS. His kit is highly focused on damage and excels at dealing stagger damage to enemies. However, his attacks are somewhat slow, and you may often find yourself stuck in attack animations when you should be dodging. This makes him less enjoyable for many players as a DPS, which is why he is placed in B-Tier.

2. Jianxin

Jianxin’s kit in the current game is quite unique, allowing her to heal, provide shields, and deal decent AoE damage. However, her abilities are not as impactful in the current meta. Verina outshines Jianxin in terms of healing, while Baizhi, a free character, is on par with her. In terms of damage output, Jianxin doesn’t achieve the high numbers needed to place her in the top A or S tiers. Additionally, her shield is currently considered ineffective since dodging and parrying are more straightforward and effective strategies.

3. Baizhi

Baizhi is a powerful 4-star support character and one of the best healers in the game right now. Her entire kit is dedicated to healing the party, with her Resonance Skill providing instant healing and her Resonance Liberation offering continuous healing for the on-field character. As a free character, she is especially valuable if you haven’t pulled Verina or Jianxin.

4. Yangyang

Yangyang is another free character given at the start of the game and serves as a decent sub-DPS early on. Her Resonance Forte skill offers strong AoE cleave damage, and her Outro skill allows her to recover energy. Additionally, her Resonance Liberation can group enemies, making it easier to defeat low-level monsters. However, Yangyang’s heavy reliance on her Resonance Chain abilities for endgame content is why she is placed in B-Tier.

5. Taoqi

Taoqi is a unique character in Wuthering Waves who provides shields and reduces damage for the entire team. Her Resonance Skill reduces damage taken by 15% for the on-field character, while her Resonance Forte offers a shield to absorb damage. Taoqi is an excellent choice for players who have trouble with dodging and parrying.

Wuthering Waves Tier List: C-Tier Resonators

C-Tier characters in Wuthering Waves are only useful early in the game and should not be heavily invested in unless you really like the character. Their damage output is underwhelming, and they offer minimal value to any team.

1. Chixia

Chixia is among the starting free characters in the game, specializing in damage-dealing abilities. However, her damage output is underwhelming, and she requires a high investment to become effective. While she can be fun to play early on, it’s best not to invest too much in her as you progress to mid-game.

2. Yuanwu

Yuanwu is a cool-looking character but is quite underwhelming in terms of performance. As a sub-DPS who can coordinate attacks like Mortefi, his damage output is very low compared to other support and sub-DPS characters, which places him firmly in the C-Tier.

Wuthering Waves Tier List: D-Tier Resonators

Characters ranked in the D-Tier are the least effective in Wuthering Waves, and allocating resources to them is not recommended.

1. Aalto

Aalto ranks as the least favorable character in Wuthering Waves version 1.0. He carries a substantial Resonance Liberation energy cost and necessitates specific attacks to activate his on-field abilities. While he can serve as a decent buffer for Aero characters, he is overall very underwhelming, and it’s better to use other characters instead.
