Trinity Desktop Environment R14.1.4 Now Available with Support for Ubuntu 25.04

Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) R14.1.4 has been released, offering a range of enhancements for users who appreciate the classic KDE 3.5 experience.

This latest release introduces several noteworthy features, including support for Unicode surrogate characters and higher planes allowing proper rendering of emojis. It also adds compatibility with upcoming Linux distributions like Ubuntu 25.04 (Plucky Puffin) and Fedora Linux 43. Other enhancements include tabbed browsing in the KPDF document viewer and the ability to click links directly within calendar events.

This update also introduces 22 sleek new vector-style wallpapers and 15 fresh color themes. A new control module has been added to handle alternatives management for DEB- and RPM-based systems. Additionally, a new Dekoration theme is included, featuring enhancements like transparency, top and shadow borders, and better handling of inactive window states in Dekorator. Users can now also set up VPN connections directly through tdenetworkmanager.

Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) R14.1.4 further refines the user experience by reorganizing the context menu in tderandrtray, correcting gamma adjustment behavior, and improving kxkb’s compatibility with setxkbmap. The update includes new tray feedback options and fixes, along with notable upgrades to the Codeine media player.

Additionally, this update enables users to configure schemes and CPU policies via DCO, introduces support for ISO8601’s reduced precision format (e.g., hour-only timestamps) in KRFCDate, and includes a new dockOnStart setting to control window behavior on launch. KTeaTime also gains a handy new option that allows the timer to reset when the notification message is clicked.

To conclude, TDE R14.1.4 introduces a new Info dialog in universalIndentGUI-tqt, improves integration with JasPer 3 and 4, and extends support to GCC 15 and Poppler version 25.01 and above.
