The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 makes its debut in China, aiming to compete with the Samsung Z Fold 5.

In 2023, the world of smartphones is witnessing a surge in the popularity of foldable devices. Notably, Google unveiled its first-ever foldable phone, while Samsung introduced the eagerly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5, providing tech enthusiasts with a diverse array of options. Joining this trend, Xiaomi has now officially launched its third-generation foldable phone, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. This premium foldable smartphone is aiming to offer an outstanding user experience and aims to compete with the likes of Google and Samsung. Let’s delve into the features and specifications that the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 brings to the table.

Design and Build

The Mix Fold 3 inherits the book-like folding design from its predecessor, the Mix Fold 2. It boasts an elegant and slim profile, measuring only 5.26mm when unfolded and 10.86mm when folded. Impressively, it’s also quite lightweight, tipping the scales at a mere 259 grams. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is available in two attractive color options: Black and Gold. Furthermore, customers have the choice between a glass back or a leather back variant.

A robust free-hovering hinge mechanism is a standout feature of the Mix Fold 3. Constructed from ultra-resistant carbon steel, this hinge can pivot between 45 and 135 degrees, and Xiaomi claims it can endure an impressive 500,000 folds without any degradation. This new hinge design is considered an improvement over the micro water droplet shape hinge used in the previous year’s model. To protect the device, it features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back, with a high-strength steel mid-frame providing added durability.

Displays and Performance

Turning our attention to the displays, the Mix Fold 3 boasts a cutting-edge 8.03-inch E6 Eco2 AMOLED LTPO Ultra Thin Glass foldable panel with a crisp 2K resolution, a high 120Hz refresh rate, and an impressive peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The external display is a 6.56-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED panel with an equally smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The inner foldable display is protected by UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) and has received TUV Rheinland certification, guaranteeing its endurance for up to 500,000 folds.

Performance-wise, the Mix Fold 3 is powered by an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset coupled with an Adreno 740 GPU. Users have the option to pair the device with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring a smooth and responsive user experience.

Camera and Other Features

In the camera department, the Mix Fold 3 stands out with its impressive six-camera setup. The quad-camera system bears the prestigious Leica branding and includes a 50MP IMX800 primary sensor with OIS, a 10MP telephoto camera with 3.2x optical zoom, a 13MP ultra-wide lens, and a novel 10MP Periscope lens with 5x optical zoom. On the front, you’ll find a 20MP center punch-hole selfie camera on both the outer and inner displays.

The Mix Fold 3 houses a robust 4,800mAh battery, which can be swiftly charged using the 67W fast wired charging or the 50W wireless charging options. It runs on MIUI 14, based on the Android 13 operating system. Connectivity options include 5G support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth version 5.3, NFC, dual symmetrical speakers, Dolby Vision and Atmos support, a Vapor Cooling System for enhanced thermal management, and a convenient side-mounted fingerprint sensor for secure authentication.

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is set to retail for CNY 8,999 (approximately Rs 1,03,000). The smartphone will be available in different configurations:
