Following the lukewarm reception of its X Elite chipsets and amid an ongoing ARM lawsuit, Qualcomm has introduced a new processor at CES 2025. Dubbed simply Snapdragon X (alongside its Plus and Elite counterparts), this new chip is designed specifically for budget laptops. Here’s what we know so far.

While the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus target high-end laptops, the Snapdragon X focuses on mainstream and budget-friendly devices. Unlike its premium siblings, the Snapdragon X comes in a single SKU: the X1-26-100.

The Snapdragon X1-26-100 features 8 first-generation Qualcomm Oryon cores running at 3.0 GHz, with a total cache of 30 MB. The integrated GPU delivers 1.7 TFLOPS of performance, while the NPU offers 45 TOPS, matching the top-tier X Elite processor. This ensures that features like Copilot Plus on these devices should perform similarly to premium models.

Given its slightly lower specs, the Snapdragon X1-26-100 is expected to power laptops in the $500-$600 range. However, it would be even more appealing if these laptops were priced lower, especially considering that X Plus and X Elite laptops have recently been available for around $800-$1100.

Qualcomm reports that over 60 laptops are currently in production with Snapdragon X series chips, and that number is expected to exceed 100 by 2026. While Windows on ARM hasn’t gained as much traction as Qualcomm had hoped, the increasing availability of budget-friendly devices could help the company expand its user base.
