Rockstar Games continues to grapple with the ongoing leaks and rumors surrounding GTA 6. Amidst the flurry of information, a recent Kotaku report suggested the game could be delayed until 2026, sparking panic among gamers and causing a drop in Take-Two Interactive shares. However, a recent update from Insider Gaming has provided clarification on the inaccuracies of these claims.
Confirmation has emerged from multiple sources, including Insider Gaming and Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier. According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who reportedly spoke to several sources close to the game’s development, every source confirmed that GTA 6’s development is “on schedule” and reports of any delay are “pure conjecture.”
In his Game On newsletter, Jason Schreier echoed similar sentiments, stating that while there’s a possibility GTA 6’s release date could extend beyond 2025, “it would be impossible for anyone to definitively state that the game will be ready in 21 months.”
Typically, video games often lag behind schedule and are susceptible to delays, particularly when they undertake ambitious projects and face significant pressure, as is the case with the next installment of Grand Theft Auto.
It appears that GTA 6’s development was never actually delayed, and premature judgments were merely speculative. Kotaku has revised its article, acknowledging that early 2025 is no longer the target release window for GTA 6. However, many gamers had already anticipated a Fall 2025 release.
Considering the past delay of Red Dead Redemption 2, which was initially slated for a 2017 release but was postponed by a year, it’s uncertain when GTA 6 will be ready. The decision to bring employees back to the office may have been driven by a desire to maintain both productivity and security, especially given Rockstar Games’ history of leaked data.
