A recent report suggests that Rockstar’s western epic, Red Dead Redemption 2, might arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. Alongside this, a next-gen update is rumored to be in the works, aiming to enhance the game’s performance on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
The initial report came from Gamereactor, supported by a similar article from Nintenduo. Both outlets mention hearing about “one big rumored game” for the Switch successor Red Dead Redemption 2. According to Gamereactor, sources close to Rockstar say the studio is planning to release the game on Switch 2 later this year.
The Switch 2 port is expected to come alongside a much-anticipated next-gen update for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, something fans have been asking for a long time. While there’s no official word yet, it’s likely the patch will finally enable RDR2 to run at 60 FPS on these consoles.
The update will probably include texture and resolution improvements too, though there’s a possibility Rockstar might follow the ‘GTA 5 Enhanced Edition’ route and charge players for these enhancements.
We’ll have to wait and see how things unfold, but the rumors of a Switch 2 port should excite Switch players who missed out on Rockstar’s masterpiece. If true, Red Dead Redemption 2 will join titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Hitman: World of Assassination as acclaimed third-party games finally coming to Nintendo.
That said, these reports are still unconfirmed, so take them with a grain of salt. Are you excited to potentially see RDR2 running at a smooth 60 FPS on PS5? Let us know in the comments below.
