OpenAI’s GPT Store Launch Postponed to Early 2024

OpenAI has experienced a series of turbulent events in recent weeks. Despite this, the organization had plans to unveil the GPT Store this month, featuring custom GPT creations from users of the ChatGPT AI platform. OpenAI even highlighted the potential for users to earn money based on the popularity of their GPT models.

However, the launch of the GPT Store for ChatGPT, initially scheduled for this month, has been postponed to next year.

In a recent email dispatched to users who subscribed to the GPT builder tool, OpenAI confirmed the delay of the GPT Store. The message conveyed that “we are now planning to launch the GPT Store early next year,” indicating a release expected in early 2024 for the GPT Store.

The delay in launching the GPT Store, despite many having already crafted various GPTs, is an unexpected turn. The ChatGPT team has been actively enhancing the functionalities of the custom GPT platform, preparing for the store’s eventual arrival.

The email also mentioned that “a few unexpected things have been keeping us busy.” Speculation suggests this might be linked to Sam Altman’s recent dismissal from the CEO position. This led to turmoil at OpenAI offices when their former CEO was reportedly set to join Microsoft, only to then return to OpenAI due to nearly every employee threatening to resign unless Sam Altman came back.

The anticipation for the GPT Store is high within the AI industry, as it represents a significant leap forward, allowing individuals to create and market their custom GPTs.

What are your thoughts on this delay? Are you eager about the potential to generate income by utilizing GPTs through this new feature? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
