OpenAI Set to Launch GPT Store Next Week

After several delays, OpenAI is set to launch the public GPT Store next week. The company is sending emails to GPT Builders, notifying them about the upcoming launch. Users are reminded to publish their custom GPTs as public to be featured on the GPT Store. OpenAI also plans to monetize the GPTs and compensate creators, although specific details are yet to be disclosed.

During the OpenAI developer conference in November 2023, the company introduced custom GPTs and initially announced the GPT Store’s launch later that month. Unfortunately, shortly after the conference, ChatGPT encountered DDoS attacks, leading to further delays in the Store’s launch.

Additionally, the OpenAI board made the decision to terminate Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, only to rehire him after a period of tumultuous developments.

Following a return to stability in December, OpenAI announced a further delay in the release of the GPT Store, now scheduled for early 2024. As January arrives, OpenAI is at last prepared to launch the highly anticipated GPT Store. Users will have the ability to construct their customized versions of ChatGPT, incorporating additional knowledge, skills, instructions, and more.

These are not AI agents capable of executing actions on your behalf; instead, they represent customized versions of ChatGPT designed for specific purposes.

As the popularity of the GPT Store grows and users increasingly utilize your customized chatbot, you stand to receive compensation from OpenAI. Ensuring the discoverability of your GPT is crucial, so it’s essential to make them public rather than just enabling link sharing. It’s important to note that GPTs are exclusively available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and Enterprise customers. What are your thoughts on the concept of having an App Store for GPTs? Let us know in the comment section below.
