It’s been nearly a month since London-based startup Nothing launched its latest mid-range devices, the Nothing Phone (3a) and (3a) Pro (review). The first Nothing OS 3.1 update arrived a few weeks ago, introducing features like Essential Key widgets and various improvements. Now, Nothing is rolling out a second update for the Phone (3a) series.
The latest Nothing OS 3.1 update, bearing build number V3.1-250320-2319, brings enhancements to the Essential Key, Camera/UI, and Always-On Display. Weighing in at 96.60 MB, the update is rolling out gradually in a staged manner.
According to the changelog, the update introduces several camera improvements, including a more intuitive zoom interaction, a fix for the reddish skin tone issue in the front-facing camera, and better white balance in indoor shots. Additionally, Nothing has refined white balance, clarity, tone, focusing accuracy at 2x zoom, portrait mode, and overall camera app performance.
However, the most notable feature in this update is the ability to use the Essential Key within the Camera app. This allows users to capture and store images using voice input or text, making it easier to save reminders of what’s right in front of them.
Other notable improvements in this update include better Essential Space performance, smoother Always-On Display (AOD) and transition animations, along with various bug fixes and stability enhancements. Additionally, Nothing has shared a roadmap for upcoming Essential Space features, which will introduce Smart Collections, Focused Search, and Flip to Record in future updates.
