Following extensive teasing and anticipation surrounding “a new world of possibilities,” Nothing has officially unveiled the Ear Open globally. These new earbuds feature an open design with transparent earpieces, offering up to 30 hours of battery life, among other specifications. With the launch now complete, we have all the details on the device’s specifications and pricing. Let’s explore the design, pricing, and availability of the Nothing Ear Open.
Nothing Ear Open Design
The latest Nothing earbuds come with a pill-shaped charging and storage case, similar to the Nothing Ear Stick, featuring the signature transparent design. The case is notably slim from all angles. Inside, you’ll find two earbuds that boast an open design, which means they rest at the entrance of your ear rather than entering the ear canal.
The earbuds themselves are designed with a curved hook that wraps around your ears for a secure fit. The transparent design extends to the earbuds, reaching up to the stem, with a striking red accent and Nothing branding on the top. The ends of the hooks feature a slightly glossier silver finish, likely for improved grip. Each earbud weighs approximately 8.1 grams.
Nothing Ear Open Specifications and Features
In terms of specifications, the Nothing Ear Open features a 14.2mm titanium-coated polyethylene terephthalate driver along with a custom diaphragm. The audio drivers utilize what Nothing refers to as “Bass Enhance” technology. However, due to their open design, the Nothing Ear Open does not feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Instead, it includes a dedicated 120ms Low Latency Mode for a smoother audio experience.
To mitigate sound leakage from the open design, the earbuds employ a dual speaker system. This system includes a second outward-facing speaker that plays an inverse sound wave to counteract any leakage.
Additionally, the Nothing Ear Open features Dual Device Connectivity and supports Bluetooth 5.3. Similar to previous Nothing earbuds, it includes ChatGPT integration, although you will need a Nothing Phone to access this feature.
The earbuds are also equipped with AI-backed Clear Voice technology, designed to improve your calling experience by minimizing ambient noise. According to Nothing, this technology has been tested in 28 million scenarios.
Both the charging case and the individual earbuds feature an IP54 rating for protection against sweat and dust. In terms of battery life, each earbud contains a 64mAh battery, while the charging case is equipped with a 635mAh battery. According to Nothing, the earbuds offer up to 8 hours of use on a single charge, while the charging case can extend total playback time to 30 hours.
Regarding touch controls, the Nothing Ear Open includes standard gestures. For example, pinching and holding the stem of the earbuds lets you play or pause music or skip tracks. A single pinch answers or ends a call, whereas a double pinch rejects an incoming call.
