Microsoft is preparing to launch two smaller Surface PCs a Surface Pro and a Surface Laptop, both featuring a 12-inch display. For months, rumors suggested that Microsoft was testing compact Surface models internally as potential replacements for the Surface Go and Surface Laptop Go.

Now, WinFuture has spotted a Geekbench listing for a device labeled “774_LAN”, which, based on Microsoft’s past naming patterns, likely refers to an upcoming Surface PC. The most intriguing revelation from the listing is that the device is powered by Qualcomm’s lower-end Snapdragon X (X1P-42-100) processor.

Unlike the Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus, which feature 12 or 10 Oryon CPU cores, the X1P-42-100 SKU comes with just 8 Oryon CPU cores. It delivers clock speeds of up to 3.2GHz, with a single core boosting to 3.4GHz. However, the Adreno GPU in this variant is relatively weak, offering only 1.7 TFLOPS of graphics performance.

Beyond the chipset, the alleged Surface PC is equipped with 16GB of RAM and runs on Windows 11 Pro. According to the leaked Geekbench listing, it scores 1,462 in single-core and 9,251 in multi-core tests. Since Microsoft’s Copilot event is set for April 4, marking its 50th anniversary, there’s a strong chance that these compact Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models could be officially unveiled on the same day.

Earlier this year, in January, Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 with Intel Lunar Lake chips, but these were targeted at business customers. Meanwhile, in May 2024, the company introduced the Snapdragon Laptop 7th Edition and Surface Pro 11th Edition, featuring Snapdragon X Elite/Plus processors, aimed at consumers.

Now, with the smaller Surface PCs powered by an entry-level Snapdragon X processor, Microsoft seems to be targeting everyday consumers who want a portable, high-performance device with excellent battery life—similar to the iPad Pro.
