Microsoft has launched two new compact Surface Copilot+ PCs: the 13-inch Surface Laptop and the 12-inch Surface Pro. Designed to be lightweight, portable, and budget-friendly, the Surface Laptop starts at \$899, while the Surface Pro begins at \$799.
The 13-inch Surface Laptop is powered by an 8-core Snapdragon X Plus (X1P-46-100) chip, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and either 256GB or 512GB of UFS storage. It features a 13-inch Full HD IPS display with a 60Hz refresh rate.
While the laptop introduces a new aluminum chassis and adds a fingerprint sensor, it lacks some premium features like Windows Hello Face Unlock, a 120Hz screen, and a haptic trackpad. Microsoft has ditched the magnetic Surface Connect charging port, but the company still claims the device can deliver up to 23 hours of local video playback on a single charge.
Moving on to the 12-inch Surface Pro, it also runs on the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus processor, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB of UFS storage. The device features a 12-inch IPS panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2196 x 1464, as previously reported.
What’s interesting about the 12-inch Surface Pro is its new design, which features uniform bezels around the corners. A standout feature is the ability to magnetically attach the Surface Slim Pen to the back for charging and storage. The keyboard is sold separately for $149. You also get Windows Hello Face Unlock and up to 16 hours of battery life, although the Surface Connect charging port has been removed.
Both the 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro are available for pre-order now, with shipping set to begin on May 20.
