Microsoft is hosting a Surface event next week on May 6. The official Microsoft Surface account on X teased a Copilot+ PC launch, stating, “Something new is coming…find out next week,” along with an eye emoji, sparking curiosity. Based on recent reports, it’s expected that Microsoft will unveil compact Surface laptops.
Earlier, we reported that a smaller Surface laptop was spotted on Geekbench, featuring the entry-level Snapdragon X chipset. The device boasts a 12-inch display and is powered by the Snapdragon X (X1P-42-100) processor. In the Geekbench CPU test, it scored 1,462 in single-core performance and 9,251 in multi-core performance.
Rumors indicate that Microsoft is planning to replace the Surface Go and Surface Laptop Go with two smaller Surface Copilot+ PCs: the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. During the latest Q3 earnings call, Microsoft did not disclose Surface revenue separately, leaving the performance of the Surface series unclear.
Recently, Microsoft released Surface laptops featuring Intel Lunar Lake chips for business customers, while last year, consumer models Surface laptop with Snapdragon X processors were introduced. With the upcoming smaller Surface laptops, Microsoft seems to be targeting portable devices like the iPad Pro.
