Microsoft has unveiled one of the most highly anticipated tech launches of the year: AI PCs, branded as Copilot Plus PCs. These PCs come with onboard Neural Processing and provide a range of AI features designed to take full advantage of that hardware. Here’s everything you need to know about these PCs and their new features.
Recall is Here!
During the announcement, one of the initial features highlighted by the company is the Recall feature. This feature was formerly known internally as AI Explore. As its name implies, Recall can assist in recalling past activities on your PC. For instance, you can ask Recall to remind you about a chat you had last night with one of your Discord friends.
Photos App: Super Resolution feature
The upcoming Photos app update will introduce a Super Resolution feature, exclusive to Copilot Plus PCs. This feature allows users to enhance the quality of old photos. Microsoft also demonstrated an AI narrator that describes the contents of pictures.
Cocreator: Create While in Control
Cocreator is a new feature designed to make the creation process easier and more intuitive. You can request it to generate an entire image while guiding it based on your own drawings. This approach ensures that the final result aligns more closely with your vision, rather than being solely dependent on AI. Cocreator will be exclusive to Copilot Plus PCs.
The Restyle feature has the capability to create fresh, stylistically reimagined images using your current photos as a foundation. The result is a completely refreshed image with a new look and feel.
Live Captions
Live Captions is a new feature on Copilot Plus PCs that translates audio from the microphone in real time. Microsoft claims it supports English translations for over 40 languages across all applications.
Windows Studio Effects
Windows Studio Effects is designed to ensure you look your best during professional meetings. It offers features like portrait lighting, improved noise cancellation, background blur, and creative filters. These features will be readily accessible in Quick Settings on Copilot Plus PCs.
Creative Apps Right Under Your Nose
During the event, Microsoft demonstrated several Adobe apps, showcasing their performance, which was claimed to be nearly twice as fast as on an M3 MacBook. One of the standout features highlighted at the launch event of Copilot Plus PCs was the availability of Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, Firefly, and Express. These apps are native ARM64 versions.
The company also showcased DaVinci Resolve, demonstrating how the software maximizes the use of the NPU to deliver rapid color edits to videos without burdening the CPU and GPU.
Copilot with GPT-4o
Copilot Plus PCs come equipped with OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-4o. While we’ve explored the model in detail in our comparisons, the key takeaway is that GPT-4o on Copilot Plus PCs will offer enhanced speed, power, and personalization. Conversations will feel more natural than ever.
New Copilot Plus PCs Across Manufacturers
In addition to Microsoft’s latest Surface and Surface Pro, which were announced at the event, a range of new devices is on the horizon. Top manufacturers such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung are set to unveil their Copilot Plus PCs to the market soon.
The new Surface laptops are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite platform. Additionally, AMD with Ryzen AI and Intel with the upcoming Alder Lake platforms will introduce new Copilot Plus PCs to the market. Microsoft has announced that the new Copilot Plus PCs will begin rolling out on June 18, with prices starting at $999. Share your thoughts on Copilot Plus PCs in the comments section below.
