Lenovo Reveals New ThinkPads, ThinkBook with Intel Core Ultra & Copilot AI Key

Lenovo has revealed its 2024 lineup of AI PCs at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The lineup includes new ThinkPad laptops and a new ThinkBook. Earlier today, we covered the unveiling of the innovative transparent laptop concept showcased at the same event.

Let’s delve into Lenovo’s 2024 AI PC lineup, comprising these five laptops:

  • ThinkPad T14 i Gen 5
  • ThinkPad T14s Gen 5
  • ThinkPad T16 Gen 3
  • ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2
  • ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4

An important highlight is that all new 2024 edition Lenovo laptops unveiled today feature the Microsoft Copilot AI key. This enables seamless and quick access to the brand-new AI assistant, on which my colleague Mati has some interesting opinions to share. The 2024 lineup is centered around AI and features the latest ‘Meteor Lake‘ Intel Core Ultra processors. Some laptops will also be offered with the Intel vPro suite of management features, which is utilized by enterprises.

Additionally, Lenovo mentions that the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 will come with the latest Ryzen 8040 series processors from AMD. These processors are designed to meet the growing demands of AI acceleration on modern laptops.

The new CPUs in Lenovo’s 2024 laptop lineup include an NPU component for accelerating AI tasks. Additionally, the manufacturing process uses the all-new Intel 4, which brings significant improvements in efficiency. Lenovo describes its new 2024 laptop lineup as “an optimal ecosystem of AI hardware and software solutions.”

Lenovo ThinkPad X12 Gen 2 (2024) Specs

The ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2 stands out to me as the most intriguing laptop in the new lineup. It seems to strike a balance between modern and traditional technology. With its Intel Core Ultra U series processor, this ThinkPad X12 appears to be a highly appealing ultrabook. It will offer up to 32GB LPDDR5x memory.

This laptop is equipped with a magnetic pen stylus and incorporates the iconic Lenovo trackpad design. You may notice the little red dot in the middle of the new 2024 ThinkPad X12’s keyboard. The company has kept the trackpad control feature, maintaining consistency with nostalgic Lenovo laptop design elements, even on modern devices like the new 2024 AI PC lineup.

The laptop offers a 12.3-inch WUXGA display, which is described as a low-power IPS panel with 400 nits of brightness. It also supports seamless unlocking via your face through Windows Hello.

Lenovo ThinkPad T-Series (2024) Specs

Lenovo’s T-Series ThinkPad lineup is designed to deliver an optimal experience for business-oriented use. The recently launched laptops come with an “elegant Communications bar,” comprising a 5MP camera and a noise-canceling microphone. This bar physically protrudes from the top, making it easier to open and close the laptop’s display lid.

According to reports, this communications bar has helped reduce the overall size of the side bezels on the ThinkPad T-Series laptops. The design team at Lenovo has also focused on improving the PC’s accessibility. Tactile markings have been added to the keyboard, making it easier for visually impaired users to operate the PC. Additionally, the volume up/down buttons and a few other keys, such as Insert and the FN (function) key, have been marked for easier distinction.

The new Lenovo View application will be pre-installed on the new ThinkPad laptops. This app leverages the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) found on Intel’s Core Ultra chips to improve the video quality of your webcam. According to Lenovo, the app includes a Low Light Enhancer feature to reduce noise and can also brighten up the image.

The ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, T14 Gen 5, and T16 Gen 3 all feature Wi-Fi 7 support, the latest connectivity standard. The new designs of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and T16 Gen 3 laptops have also received a high repairability certification from iFixit, scoring 9.3 out of 10. In comparison, the MacBook Pro (M3) from Apple only scores 4 out of 10 in terms of repairability.

Additionally, Lenovo offers ThinkPad screen variants with 3M optical film. This option delivers a higher brightness of 400 nits while using less energy. The 3M optical film option will be available on the WUXGA displays of the ThinkPad T14 Gen 5 and ThinkPad T14s Gen 5. Moreover, the ThinkPad T14s Gen 5, T14 Gen 5, and T16 Gen 3 laptops provide an option for high-resolution OLED displays with HDR support.

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 (2024) Specs

The new Lenovo ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 laptop is a hybrid device with innovative design features. It weighs just 1.64kg and boasts a screen-to-body ratio of 90%, thanks to its minimized bezels, offering a more immersive display experience. The 14-inch IPS panel display has 100% sRGB and 300 nits of brightness.

The display features a 16:10 aspect ratio, providing ample screen space. The trackpad is made with a “glass-like Mylar material” and is larger in size. The keyboard has also been improved, with 1.5mm of key travel.

With a slim profile measuring just 16.85mm, the ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4 is highly portable, making it an excellent choice for those on the go.
