iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus with Dynamic Island and 48MP Cameras Revealed

At the ‘Wonderlust‘ hardware launch event, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max variants. Several rumored features, including the removal of the notch design and the adoption of the ‘dynamic island‘ design, were confirmed. Here’s a closer look at the details.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus: Specifications & Features

The iPhone 15 introduces the Dynamic Island design, replacing the notch found on previous iPhone 14 models. This design change is a significant update, making the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus look more modern compared to their predecessors.

Dynamic Island is a key feature of the front design for all new iPhone 15 models. This change is likely to appeal to many users who are considering upgrading to the latest iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus, especially since the latter offers improved battery life. Both models come with Super Retina XDR displays featuring OLED panels. The iPhone 15 has a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 15 Plus boasts a larger 6.7-inch display. These displays are capable of reaching up to 2000 nits of brightness. It’s worth noting that the non-Pro iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models have a 60Hz refresh rate. Additionally, the back of the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus features a frosted design and curved edges.

In terms of performance, Apple has equipped the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus with the A16 Bionic SoC, which was previously featured in the last-gen iPhone 14 Pro. Similar to the previous Pro model, both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus support Wi-Fi 6. Notably, both of these models now feature a Type-C port, a change that Apple was compelled to adopt due to EU regulations. It’s important to mention that this Type-C port operates at USB 2.0 speeds, which may disappoint some users. However, the Pro models come with a superior USB port.

Regarding the camera system, the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models have received significant upgrades. They feature an improved 48MP main camera alongside a 12MP ultra-wide lens. This marks a substantial improvement in camera capabilities. The devices also support Cinematic Mode at 4K 24FPS, and the quad-pixel sensor combines four pixels into one to enhance image quality. Additionally, Apple has introduced the next-generation Portrait Photos feature, allowing users to capture depth data for portrait photos and edit them later in the Photos app.

The iPhone 15 boasts several features, including a second-gen UWB chip, iOS 17, all-day battery life, and satellite-based roadside assistance. However, it does not include the new Action button, which is a feature exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Pricing & Availability

The iPhone 15 is priced starting at $799, while the iPhone 15 Plus begins at $899.. Both models will be available in five colors: Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Black, with pre-orders beginning on September 15 and the release date set for September 22.
