It’s clear that AI has become Google’s top priority. The company is weaving Gemini and other AI tools into nearly all its apps and services. Now, even the Google search homepage is getting an AI makeover, as the company tests a new “AI Mode” that may take the place of the classic “I’m Feeling Lucky” button.

The update was spotted by X user @AndellDam, who shared a post revealing the new AI Mode on the Google search page. In the screenshot, the search bar features a dedicated AI Mode button on the right, positioned just beside the Google Lens icon. Interestingly, the button’s placement seems intentional right where users are most likely to click after entering a query.

Adding the AI Mode button directly to the search bar highlights Google’s push for users to engage with AI instead of the traditional blue link results. Meanwhile, another X user, @natzir9, shared a post showing that AI Mode is set to replace the classic “I’m Feeling Lucky” button entirely.

AI Mode lets you ask broader, open-ended questions on Google Search. Powered by the Gemini 2.0 model, it uses advanced reasoning to provide answers and is integrated with search results to deliver more accurate and up-to-date information. We first noticed the AI Mode tab appearing on Google’s search results page earlier this month.

If you’re interested in trying AI Mode early, head over to labs.google.com/search/aimode and toggle it on if it’s available for your Google account. If you get a chance to test it, let us know in the comments whether AI Mode delivers better results compared to regular Google search.
