Google Messages to Introduce Double Tap Reaction Feature Soon

In recent years, Google has directed its attention towards enhancing its RCS-powered Messages app as the preferred choice for Android users, prompting Apple to consider RCS integration into iMessage. With a commitment to regular updates and the introduction of new features, Google is striving to deliver a refined messaging experience. Presently, Google Messages intends to incorporate a straightforward yet valuable feature inspired by rival messaging applications.

The most recent addition to these features is the option to react by double-tapping on a message. According to reports from 9to5Google, the latest beta version of Google Messages (20240208_00_RC00) includes a code string referring to a double-tap reaction feature. This feature will allow users to respond to messages with either a heart or a like reaction.

Currently, reactions in Google Messages are limited to RCS chats. To access them, users must tap and hold on a message to reveal a selection of emoji reactions. Alternatively, users can utilize the recently introduced Photomoji feature, which was released in December last year.

The functionality could operate similarly to the double-tap reaction feature found in Instagram and Telegram messaging apps. It’s speculated that the implementation might follow a similar pattern. However, it’s possible that users may still need to long-press on the text to access and select other emoji reactions.

Apart from the presence of the code string, there is currently no concrete evidence or indication of the feature’s availability. Furthermore, the feature is not yet accessible even in the beta version of the app. As a result, it may take some time before users can expect to see this option integrated into the stable version of the application.

This addition will enhance the overall user experience, further solidifying Google Messages as a comprehensive messaging service. I’m eagerly anticipating trying out this feature, how about you?
