At I/O 2025, Google unveiled exciting new features for Gemini, including an Agent mode and enhanced personalization. The Agent mode enables Gemini to live browse the web and perform tasks on your behalf like finding apartment listings that match your criteria and scheduling tours for you.

Gemini’s new Agent mode uses MCP to access web listings on supported sites. It will first roll out to subscribers of the Google AI Ultra plan, priced at $249.99 per month. For now, the plan is US-only, with Google offering a 50% discount for the first three months to new users.

Additionally, Gemini Live is now available to all Android and iOS users, becoming more personal and proactive. While interacting with Gemini Live, you can ask it to create events in Google Calendar, fetch the latest info from Google Maps, and more. Google is gradually integrating apps like Tasks, Keep, Calendar, and Maps into the Gemini Live experience.

Google has also integrated its latest image and video generation models Imagen 4 and Veo 3 into the Gemini app. Veo 3 can now natively generate not just video but also audio, including sound effects, ambient noise, and character dialogue. For now, Veo 3 is only available in the US to Google AI Ultra subscribers.

Google has announced that the new Gemini 2.5 Flash model is becoming the default on the Gemini app. Despite being smaller and more affordable, it delivers performance close to the flagship Gemini 2.5 Pro. Additionally, users can now upload files, images, and PDFs when using the Deep Research AI agent in Gemini to gain deeper insights.

Gemini is also being integrated into the desktop version of Chrome on Windows and macOS. According to Google, users subscribed to the Google AI Pro or Ultra plans in the U.S. will see a Gemini icon appear in the Chrome title bar.

With Gemini in Chrome, you can open it on any website to ask questions about the current page or get a summary of its content. In the future, Gemini will also “support multitasking across tabs and even navigate websites for you“.

Additionally, college students in the U.S., Brazil, Indonesia, Japan, and the UK are eligible for a free one-year upgrade to the Google AI Pro plan.
